Japan Tour 2024

Looking forward to playing this 10 date tour with my UK/Japan trio. The trio features the versatile and sympathetic bass playing of Mao Yamada, and the one of a kind powerhouse that is Yasuhiro Yoshigaki on drums. We’ll pick up where we left off in Tokyo, and visit trusted friends and venues across the two Japan Tour 2024

New project, Köln Conversations

I’ve been looking for a way to acknowledge the tectonic shift in solo piano improvising that the Koln concert represents. On the anniversary of Keith Jarrett’s Koln concert (24th January 1975), I like to remind myself of this awesome event, its impact on me, and countless others. Since 2015, I’ve been doing this, by performing New project, Köln Conversations

Everything Chanes: cover image

New album, keeping it manual

Really pleased to have produced this limited edition beautiful vinyl LP of solo piano recorded on the Stuart mega grand (102 notes and 4 pedals) at the Newcastle Art Gallery in NSW, Australia. The cover illustration is a painting by Tim Maguire. I tried to make it a very local effort, with the mastering and New album, keeping it manual

‘The Köln Concert’ Concert: London and Edinburgh 2019

This Summer I’ve been enjoying playing in Australia, Japan, and am looking forward to playing with friends in France in July. But perhaps the biggest events for me this year will be my rendition of Keith Jarrett’s Köln concert on 15th August in Edinburgh, and the warm up gig on July 14th in Gospel Oak, ‘The Köln Concert’ Concert: London and Edinburgh 2019

Interpretations, Renditions and Improvisations

“Mr Gershwin, music is music” – Alban Berg to George Gershwin But when is music “Music”? Perhaps it would be best not to aim so high and be content with just making music (so to speak). Nevertheless I am keen to find the right balance between the formal/informal (or art/popular) when performing or indeed practicing Interpretations, Renditions and Improvisations

Australian/Japanese tour 2017

I’m very much looking forward to playing in Australia and Japan with artist Tim Maguire and bassist Mao Yamada in November 2017. We’ll be playing at Tim’s show in Newcastle, Beppu Art Month in Japan, as well as other dates in both countries.

Listening with your eyes

Over the last eight weeks I’ve been collaborating with a talented and inspirational group of choreographers, performers and musicians, including choreographers and dancers Bethan Peters, Maria Ghoumrassi; percussionist/vocalist Jimmy Cannon; and vocalist Natasha Lohan on a project culminating in a performance at the National Maritime Museum. Entitled ‘We May Be Some Time,’ it was part Listening with your eyes

Delighted to be included in Yasukuni Terashima’s popular CD series Jazz Bar. To The Surface

Launching To The Surface at the London Jazz Festival 2015

Looking forward to presenting my collaboration with visual artist Tim Maguire. We’ve made a DVD featuring his video art and my solo piano improvisations. This is my first solo piano recording since 2002, and so I’m supposed to say what is ‘new’ and ‘different’ about this recording in comparison. Perhaps talk about how I’ve been Launching To The Surface at the London Jazz Festival 2015
